When Amagai is revealed to be helping Ichigo, the Gotei 13 fights among themselves over tracking them down. Renji fights Iba, Ikkaku fights Hisagi, and Kira sneaks into the Kasumiōji compound. There he finds Rurichiyo being held hostage. He sends off a message to Capatain Amagai, but is waylaid by a number of assassins. Though he manages to dispatch them, one escapes with Rurichiyo and Kifune appears to keep Kira from pursuing.
